Wills provide a useful source of information for family history and should always be located if at all possible. The ones shown below were written in English but most earlier ones were in Latin. They very often followed the same general form but as they were written in Latin they need greater care!
Wills are useful as they very often indicate the names of spouces or children bit critically as they list ‘goods’ and the items they are leaving, they help the family historian find out more about the lives of their ancestors. Remember also that in wills of this date it is unusual to find reference to land. Land was the property of the local Lord of the Manor, property was God’s to dispose of!
